How to use Speech Dictation in Mountain Lion

Dictation is a brilliant (yet hidden) jem in Mountain Lion.

Speech-to-text dictation has been one of those space age features which has never really caught on. It has been around for a while but there have always been these problems:

  1. It can take hours for the computer to learn your voice.
  2. The software is expensive.
  3. It’s doesn’t get the words correct.

All these objections are being quashed by the new dictation servide built into OS X Mountain Lion. Using dictation is super easy, requires no voice training, and the accuracy is near perfect (Unless you have a thick acent)

To use dictation, double tap the ‘fn’ key on your keyboard and speak. Talk naturally but clearly. You dont need to lean into your computer, it should pick up your voice just fine. Dictation does require an interent connection.

Mountain Lion is just £13.99, It’s worth it alone for just this feature! We will be covering more Mountain Lion features daily. Check back tomorrow for more.
