Are you looking to move folders of email messages from Microsoft Outook (Mac) to Apple Mail? This is the guide for you.
We will be exporting each folder of messages from Outook 2011 as mbox files. Each folder will be a separate folder, so if you have any nested sub folders, you’ll have to set these up again once we’ve moved them across.
Step 1: Create a folder on your Mac, this will be for temporary holding your email messages while we export and import them. A good place to do this would be on the desktop.
Step 2: Open Outlook for Mac and locate your folders. They should be listed on the left hand side. Drag each of these folders in turn into the new folder we’ve created on the desktop.
Step 3: Open Apple Mail. If you haven’t already, add your email account so you are able to send/receive messages. Next, select ‘Import Mailboxes’ from the Mail menu.
Step 4: From the choices given choose ‘File in mbox format’, click Continue and at the next step browse to the folder you created earlier. You can select more than one mbox file by pressing down the cmd key on your keyboard. When you’re ready click Continue.
Step 5: Once Mail has finished importing, you’ll see your new mailboxes listed on the lefthand sidebar in a folder called ‘Import’. Drag these folders around to change the order, and drop them into each other to create subfolders.
Note: Looking for the best solution to transfer email, calendar and contacts from Outlook 2010 on Windows to Mac? I highly recommend o2m. A fantastic little app which will do it all for about £8/$13. Available from www.littlemachines.com
